Industry Standards Development

Ikanos proudly participates in several key industry groups and standards development organizations. As an active member, Ikanos plays an important role in the development and presentation of technical contributions and commits staff to fill volunteer leadership and editing roles.

HomeGrid™ Forum

The HomeGrid Forum was established as a companion to the ITU-G.hn working group which supports the development of a next-generation single coax, powerline and phone line standard for home networking, promotes its wide adoption, and ensures compliance and interoperability. HomeGrid has launched three work groups: a G.hn Contribution Work Group, a Compliance & Interoperability Work Group and a Marketing Work Group with the goals of helping to establish industries' technical requirements, ensuring interoperability, branding and marketing of HomeGrid Certified products. The International Telecommunications Union

Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) facilitates cooperation between the public and private sectors for the development of standards that benefit telecommunication users worldwide. Ikanos directly participates in Question 4 of Study Group 15, "Transceivers for customer access and in-premises phone line networking systems on metallic pairs." Ikanos also makes extensive use of the other technical requirements defined by the ITU-T, from basic telephony interfaces and voice quality to data coding and transfer protocols. ATIS

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to produce technical and operational standards for the telecommunications industry. Subcommittee NIPP-NAI (Network Access Interfaces) is responsible for the definition of the North American DSL physical layer technical requirements. Ikanos holds two leadership positions in this group: Vice Chairman of Committee NIPP and editor of the North American VDSL2 requirements documents. ETSI

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is an independent, non-profit organization officially responsible for standardization of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) within Europe, including telecommunications. ETSI's Working Group TM6 focuses on the European requirements for DSL transceivers. TTC

The Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) DSL Specification Sub-working Group (DSL Spec SWG) is responsible for the definition of the DSL physical layer technical requirements specific to Japan. Ikanos serves as the editor of the Japanese VDSL2 issues register document. The work of this group is communicated to the ITU-T for inclusion in the final published international standards for DSL. UNH-IOL

The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) DSL Consortium has been involved in the DSL industry since 1997, facilitating tests for conformance to standards and cross-vendor interoperability of DSL and DSL-related products. Ikanos strongly endorses the UNH-IOL model and actively participates in the "DSL Plugfests" to enhance the multi-vendor interoperability that enables growth of the DSL market.
